the poet becomes an oracle - he Utters, rather than Addresses - bu the voices speaking thru him are not divine ie/ from outside and above, but inside and from below, from the subconscious. he stands back and inspects his Moi like it belonged to someone else. if "I" becomes "un autre" then the Romantic dualism between subject & object is resolved. self no longer contemplates Nature but becomes part of its operational processes.

- loosely cribbed from

A noir, E blanc, I rouge, U vert, O bleu: voyelles,
Je dirai quelque jour vos naissances latentes:
A, noir corset velu des mouches éclatantes
Qui bombinent autour des puanteurs cruelles,

Golfes d’ombre; E, candeurs des vapeurs et des tentes,
Lances des glaciers fiers, rois blancs, frissons d’ombelles;
I, pourpres, sang craché, rire des lèvres belles
Dans la colère ou les ivresses pénitentes;

U, cycles, vibrements divins des mers virides,
Paix des pâtis semés d’animaux, paix des rides
Que l’alchimie imprime aux grands fronts studieux;

O, suprême Clairon plein des strideurs étranges,
Silences traversés des [Mondes et des Anges]:
—O l’Oméga, rayon violet de [Ses] Yeux!

english translation - good ones are difficult to find -

by chase madar (here:

Black A white E red I green U blue O:
vowels, one day i will tell of your secret births.
A, a hairy black corset of bright flies which buzz
around cruel stenches,

Abysses of shadow; E, innocent candors of
mists and tents, lances of proud glaciers, white
kings, shivers of umbels; I, purples, spat blood,
laugh of beautiful lips in anger or in penitent

U, cycles, divine vibrations of viridian seas,
peace of pastures specked with animals, peace of
wrinkles, which alchemy imprints on large
studious brows;

O, Supreme Clarion of strange shrillness,
silences crossed by Worlds and by Angels - O
the Omega, violet ray of Her Eyes!

and dont sleep on this, from kanada's best known theorist, tactician, and auralist, christian bök.

Burroughs Blessing

my third time in lawrence kansas, i finally got lucky. axed a couple of people and then found my way to William S Burroughs' house; the place where he lived and wrote from 1981 to his death in 1997. i happened upon tom, who lives there now, and was gracious ( gave me a tour and welcomed me as fellow agent ); later i came back after the show - in which i happily BLASTD the crowd with the parts of 'eats darkness' where ol' Bill prophesies from - & was shocked to meet james Grauerholz, burroughs' editor, assistant, and closest friend during those years. james was in fact a no-reply when i was attempting to get poetry 'clearances' (hahaha) for the record. now, here i was, playing 'eats darkness' for him Directly...while i was Sitting in Bill's place at His table, pissing in his toilet, having beer and discussing some arcane points in both burroughs' mind control theories and his funeral etiquette. for me, it was an essential connection made; the touch of unseen hands, invisible universes of black humour, geography-magic.

the photo is of the car bill bought and apparently 'drove' for a few months until it was deemd not-a-good-thing for him to do, and it was buried deep the back yard.

"!927" - thats the number
of this house. voices
disruption as technique
digifrag the past

is/ appears to be un-orderd,
holding & letting
go until

when you went
home you went
there you went

back back back

we've had numerous things thrown at us: brassieres, acorns, money, and now of course the most obvious really, and from the obvious city. once i was in barcelona in 2001 seeing this band, and Marina their lead singer was in the middle of some blood curdling flamenco wail when she casually raised her hand in the air and caught a hempen projectile being thrown at her like a zen monk snatching a fly. what suave. what class. luckily we had the pandiero.

and then later after the glue and brackets he was fixing the broken shell with: some stage of the alchemical process? crown of jingles? prisoner of love-mania? simple 'tour-guay'?

 kamloops, day off

so here is some news i just got - we've had to cancel our date oct 19 at spaceland in los angeles. we are very sorry but we are travelling on one of the gogol's tour buses and theres no way to make the show work in between gogol dates which skirt the city's hemline: ventura, san diego and anaheim. if anyone needs any convincing to come see us open for the GB - let this serve:  AAAAAAAAIIIIIII!!!! these marks indicate both wrenching and knashing. Days of Death! Days of Doubt!  filled i am with the spirit of the ancient ukrainian Cossacks! eugene hutz and crew are the baddest-ass show going. they are the relentless rebel music orgy not unlike parliament-funkadelic in sonic wallop and groove. i've started reading a book thats for sale at their merch table. its called "taras bulba" - one of nikolai gogol's earlier works. the story of two young cossacks going to their first taste of bloodshed with the Polish nobles. obviously, i love a band that has literature as a passion & puts it out with the tshirts and pink girly knickers.

also - we've added an ontario show to our november sched: in london novem 17th. (by that time we will have reached volume levels only dreaded at in that lovely folk club)
and as a final note - the GB's seem to be currently undergoing a Huge brazilian love-in: theres samba breakdowns on stage, forro in the dark played at after parties, hutz is singing old cartolla sambas while dean and i practice pandiero and they are probably gonna be crownd the visiting royalty when they head there in feb ( for carnival?? ) all that is good by me...heres a possible past future shadow of tomorrow for yours truly: ENJOY

fall tour

¡aoh! we are pleased to announce our fall tour is opening for these full-on freaks... No, the frenetic minorkey steambath party dont stop. it merely picks up stragglers like andrew and dean & makes them chase their swerving tourbus from winnipeg to oakland to lawrence kansas (where hopefully andrew will finally be able to visit wsBurroughs' old house) to richmond VA, home of missy E and the clipse. we thank gogol and hutz deeply for allowing aoh to eat darkness thru amerika with them.

thank jesus both bands share a common beverage.

aoh plays as a drums/percusion vs guitar/sampler duo for these shows. skin and bones for the people!

diane di prima

whose voice you can hear throughout certain fragments of "apostle of hustle eats darkness" ( reading from her Revolutionary Letters), is a living legend of postwar american poetry. this is from her poem of 1985, RANT. i've taken liberties and addd some images. i dedicate this version of it to naomi klein and her seemingly endless work raising our collective consciousness.

There is no way out of the spiritual battle

There is no way you can avoid taking sides

There is no way you can not have a poetics

no matter what you do: plumber, baker, teacher

you do it in the consciousness of making

or not making your world

you have a poetics: you step into the world

like a suit of readymade clothes

or you etch in light

your firmament spills into the shape of your room

the shape of the poem, of yr body, or yr loves

A woman's life / a man's life is an allegory

Dig it

There is no way out of the spiritual battle

the war is the war against the imagination

you can't sign up as a conscientious objector

the war of the worlds hangs right here, right now, in the balance

it is a war for this world, to keep it

a vale of soul-making

the taste in all our mouths is the taste of our power

and it is bitter as death

bring yrself home to yrself, enter the garden

the guy at the gate w/ the flaming sword is yrself

the war is the war for the human imagination

and no one can fight it but you /& no one can fight it for you

The imagination is not only holy, it is precise

it is not only fierce, is is practical

men die everyday for the lack of it,

it is vast & elegant

intellectus means "light of the mind"

it is not discourse it is not even language

the inner sun

the polis Is

constellated around

the sun

the fire Is central

heres the mandela mandala.

like the previous entry, it was made in imovie'09. a great set of training wheels for the novice, yet i must say im quite dissappointed with the loss of video quality when one uploads to youtube.

im working on a new übershort film thing in imovie, combined with something a grabbed offa the web called Cosmic Painter. i felt it was time to combine this:

In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts; as a spiritual teaching tool; for establishing a sacred space; and as an aid to meditation and trance induction.  its symbolic nature can help one "to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises."

with the famed african activist and leader, nelson mandela. what better source of contemplation and courage for eating darkness with?

here are two stills from the forthcoming film.

its been tricky trying to get the right spinning/cyclical nature of the mandala correct but a bit more van time and i might get it figured out.                                                                      (and yes that is john dee spying out from between the screen shots)

ever heard this? it is an incredible jam containing rasta-linguistic-mystic ideas about prophecy and coming judgement. i tend to like ciphers. ALOT. every sub group speaks in its own argot, but transmitting potentially threatening/dangerous messages isnt usually the main point.  making the invisible visible is one purpose of the 'holy theatre' in peter brooks' nomenclature. last night we watched this: its theme takes Rembrandt and the painting of his famous 'Night Watch'. it seems that the circumstances behind that work were less then savoury, and the man took it to himself to secretly embed the real story behind the conspiring and devious militiamen of amsterdam, who are the subjects of it. 'art is a lie that tells the truth' greenaway is telling us; and that is as good a defination as ive ever lived.

meanwhile, speaking of ciphers, heres nasty NAS, from the hippie fest that bss just played last week end. the man was spitting tight, sure, but to an audience of The String-Cheese Incident fans? i guess gettin the cheddar is good enuf for prince Nasir...good enuf for us too.

and heres prolly one of NAS roadies or entourage....squeezin a bit more american jack outta some kosmic cowboys and girls:

yeah! get that paper!

this: from the upcoming short "SPRING CLEANING"

filmed in the Mile End alleys of montreal, the film recycles apostle tropes, forges new ones, and began as clip for they hand make cigarbox guitars, which are the Sailor Jerry of the sixstringed world.  Lenny Piroth-Robert & co.  made the sintir/gembri you see in the lower right. amazing, singular instruments and somehow, affordable as well. for tonefreaks & vintagehounds - do check daddy out.

those of you who ever visited the photo gallery on the aoh mySpace (soon coming here, right ian?!) might know of my penchant for hose.  often mistaken for liederhosen, these accoutremonts can raise the level of gig from good to gigantic by bestowing a kind of confidence via sheer under-presense. thin, light, obnoxious, coloured in lavendar, wine, mocha stripes, etc, my 'show-hose' bring a gentlemans savvy and style to the sweaty indierawk stage-game . i bought all my hose during the bi-annual trips to philadelphia, right down there on South Street. ah, city of brotherly love and compassion - for my feet.

but things have changed. last pass thru we noticed that LESTER'S SHOES- that slice of timelessness where one bought both the VIKINGS Causal Shoe and the many coloured STACY ADAMS Hose - has disappeared! i walked back and forth past where i remembered it stood. touring musicians often have a paticular sense of place-smell that rarely falters. i oriented myself by heading to STEVE'S HAT SHOP and then doubling, i wasnt nightmaring....Lester's is gone. gone the one-to-one, personal man type of customer service that has all but vanished in retail. gone the attention and lovingness to the most essential part of a man's outer ensemble, the part below the ankles. gone gone gone the magic philly foot touch i waited eagerly for each year. all gone underneath a new red-brick 'retail-opportunity' style gentrification plot. the march of mundanity is tough-ass shibboleth.

absolutely dejected (i was about to indoctrinate a younger man into the World of Lester's), we headed down south street. our eyes remained open and alert in case of signs of lester-life. this wasnt hard - given that ill-a-delph has a very strong mural/street art presence. it is one of the keys to a city's life signs, the amount and quality of (il)legal public art. anyone who knows the area im writing about will recognize the following photo.  it felt like a little kick in the pants. a reminder that altho my feeding frenzy had been stifled by forces greater then me, the Essential Spark of Human Spirit was at work in the 'hood, unperterbed and unstoppable. my sincerest thank you to whoever is the author/Mosaic Master of South Street.

the scrying game

& I've been putting off putting my "voice" out here for some fear of reflection. ive been putting off putting my reflection out here for some fear of "voice". gazing at screens, reading, or more likely simply Viewing, its easy to get lost.  gazing at yourself, reading your own face, un peu de self knowledge, we know where that can lead.

who's down there anyway?

whoa! really? i screen you screen we all screen for eye screen!

Scrying (also called  seeing, or peeping) is a magic practice that involves seeing things psychically in a medium, usually for purposes of obtaining spiritual visions and more rarely for purposes of divination or fortune-telling. The media used are most commonly reflective, translucent, or luminescent substances such as crystals, stones, glass, mirrors, water, fire, or smoke. Scrying has been used in many cultures as a means of divining the past, present, or future. Depending on the culture and practice, the visions that come when one stares into the media are thought to come from God, spirits, the psychic mind, the devil, or the subconscious. Although scrying is most commonly done with a crystal ball, it may also be performed using any smooth surface.

is this screen/scrying a shelter and concealment OR is it a broadcast? i dont know. let the games begin.

Apostle Support / Support Apostle

A big thank you to all the musicians who wrote to us while we were trying to get some local opening support for this Ontario run. We wanted to reach out to bands that aren’t necessarily the “promoter’s  favourites” or what the "agent is pushing" but hopefully to meet and play with kids that are in bands we haven’t heard of and who also happened to dig our music. I’ve often said that aoh fans are either introverts! bath tub people!  or stoners!! and judging from alot of the responses, I’m not wrong!

When we were advancing these shows, we realized that we needed to have a smaller, solo or duo type situation as the support act- (which we realized after we started the search – sorry!) we have a bunch of new arrangements for the songs and are working on incorporating cajon and more acoustic stuff & fooling around with some sampler action etc, so we wanted the act prior to our performance to reflect that vibe every night. Especially given the size of some of the stages (grad club, Virginia!!!). anyway....a deep heartfelt thank you  again... some of the bands who had 5 and 6 members were freaking good and experimental and confusing and wicked and catchy and dreamy and  exactly what i would wanna hear if i was going to an apostle show but we don’ t have the means right now to be able to do that show just yet. We are super excited about the artists that will be playing and we hope you come early enough to hear them play too- if you submitted and you’re coming out, please come and say hello. And if not, we do hope our paths cross at some point in the future.,

"Apostle of Hustle Eats Darkness"

apropos of the present COLLAPSE! both economic and enviornmental, & the urge, despite it, still to engage these forces in some meaningful way, AOH is dropping our new jam "apostle of hustle eats darkness" on may 19th. downfile! & Enjoy! you can use these songs like weapons to help you battle your own bullshit or as blow-gun style stealth darts for taking down your enemies. whispering some of the lyrics or poetry quietly to yrself has been recommended to us as especially effective when used repetitively. AOH take it to the stage along highway 401 for the last two weeks of may and then we'll be swinging down to northeast baracklandia in june. check back here or our website for tour announcements. hungry for fresh vibes? 'Eats Darkness' is new music ito digest your world with.
