Thai Riverside Fireflies and The Verge Music Awards (2009-07-09)
So? Happiness? Good Vibery? Sweet Summer Funtimes? Awesome. Awesome.
We really hope everyone is doing great.
As this is being written, Michael Jackson's funeral is going on. So let us all take a moment to say our final goodbyes to him. We thank you for all you've given us. And us? Well, we're still deep in a thick, swarming haze of music-making and music-capturing that is much like being surrounded by a trillion phosphorescent, luminescent, psychotropical fireflies, and we're up to our knees in the cooling muck at the edge of this midnight river-stream overhang. If we knew the directions here we'd ask you all to join us. Sometimes being lost is great. By all means, we'd love to bask here with any of you who comes to find us.
On a completely 100% different note, I just remembered that you can vote for us for the Verge Music Awards. It's totally up to the voters to decide who should win for things like Album of The Year and Artist of The Year. So if you think you'd like to vote for us, or for whoever you dig most, go here and cast your ballot.
XM Canada and Verge are very cool and are bringing the good music to the people, so please check it out.
And now I'm going to make a pot of Oolong Tea and take my clothes off. Ah.
Be well, be happy, be kind to each other.
Lotsa love,
The Stills
PS: Also, the Canadian government is leading an effort to veto the 2-degree limit at this year's G8 Summit in Rome. Scientists the world over have stated that if global warming exceeds 2 degrees centigrade, unfathomable and terrible environmental chain reactions are very highly likely to occur, and then we're all really, really screwed. It's too sad to just sit back and let that happen. Life matters. The world matters. People matter. Please check this site out to vote against Canada's effort to veto the 2-degree limit
Peace out....
A Note From The Stills (2009-06-24)
Hi hi hi hi hi.
How you fine people doing today? Smashingly exceptional, terrific and beyond is what we're hoping for you, friends. It's all about the friends you know. The love. But you know that. And we know you know. We've been up to all sorts of good stuff. All sorts. Mostly hanging around Montreal and meeting new people and partying and enjoying the late spring and fresh new summer and staying out way too late/early. Biking around. Hanging out in thunderstorms on Mount-Royal with the pooch and some smokes. It's like a jungle out there, seriously. This last week has seen us in Toronto for some Arts&Crafts showcase shows and deep hangs with the good people over there. Great Toronto hang, lots of madness coinciding with NXNE, but our friends are great ones and there was always a place to go to with them, with drinks and talking and laughs and sunsheeeine. Vibes. No sunshine at Edgefest though. Mostly sludge and muck and wet kids not caring about a little rain for us and Metric and K-Os and others. Solidarity to everyone who was out in that rain. Much love to them. Right now we're doing some writing and getting ready to start recording our next album, which we think will be out early next year, like February. We'll keep you fully awash in news-blasts from the nexus of our music-creational universe, where we can't stop tripping over all the awesome. It's too bright to see anything in here. That's cool though, we got blindfolds, close friends, hallucinogenic trail mix, and the hugest will to channel massive love out to you from here. Like I said, it's awesome. Be good children. Be good to each other and help each other, know that your worries and fears are not at the truth of your life and soul, they are tiny-nothing lint-particles-in-the-air compared to the HUGE universe of perfection and amazingness at the root of your being. So dig on that. For real. Ciao The Stills
To All Of Our Wonderful Friends Far And Wide (2009-04-02)
We are blown away at having won 2 Juno Awards this past weekend! (For those of you who might not know, the Junos are Canada's music awards. Like the English have the Brit Awards, and The Grammys happen in the U.S. of A). The categories we won for were 'Best New Group Of The Year' (even though we've been around for 6 years and three albums), and 'Alternative Album Of The Year' for Oceans Will Rise. It is a beautiful and humbling honor for us; it's the first time any of us has been awarded anything for making music in our lives. Thank you most of all to every single person who has ever come to our shows, loved and supported us, followed our winding path, and stuck by us through the highs, lows, mids, and all the crazy stuff in between. Please know we love you back so, so much, and share this with you. You are the reason we make music. We are going to keep making music that is true and honest and filled with craziness and great love, for you and for us and for the whole world. Let us simply say that the whole Junos weekend was just a whole packet of madness from start to finish, dear compatriots. Our Down Under tour with Kings Of Leon - which was the best tour any of us had ever been on thanks to the amazing people of Oz and New Zealand (and their wine) and the incredible awesomeness of the KOL guys and their crew - came to a close, and we flew from Auckland back to Sydney and then all the way to Vancouver in 25 hours of travel. Wow. The next day we woke up all deranged and jetlagged and giddy, and had drinks with our friends at a private reception Juno dinner and won 2 awards! Wow. Then Sam Roberts and the boys won a Juno too! Wow. The next day, we do the whole red-carpet hoopla thing, which, of course, we've also never done before, when lo-and-behold, who's a-standin' over there with his hands in his pockets but good ol' Elvis Costello! We had to physically restrain Oliver who was practically out of his head with excitement. We all were! We took some pictures with him and chatted, and he was really nice. We're pretty big fans of his music. That's why we were so damn excited. Wow. THEN, we got to play to over 3 million people on a live national telecast of the Junos televised portion. I think you can find it on You Tube (tv sound always sucks) Then Sammy won AGAIN for Artist of The Year!! Wow. Then it was parties and drinking and regaling and all that good stuff we all love. In the end, though, the feeling that lasts after all is said and done, and now that we're back home, is one that is pretty humbling. We feel so lucky to be able to make music as a living at all, let alone win things for doing it. We wish upon everyone the same joy and happiness we get to feel from doing this. We hope you all find the great, beautiful things in life you want, with hope, and friends, and inspiration to guide you there!
All Our Love To You, The Stills PS: We'd also like to thank God..............frey Jones.
